Taean Tulip Festival Sees 26% Jump in Visitors From Previous Year

(TAEAN=Yonhap News) The South Chungcheong county of Taean's Flower Festival Committee announced May 11 that some 501,000 persons visited Sinon-ri, Nam-myeon, from April 13 to May 10 to enjoy the 6th Taean World Tulip Festival.

The number is a 25.9 percent increase from last year's 398,000 visitors.

Under the theme "Tulips! Embrace the World," the festival had a total of 2 million flowers of 300 varieties on display, including flower arangments in the shapes of global landmarks, such as Seoul's Namdaemun Gate, the Eiffel Tower of Paris, Dutch windmills, and Egyptian pyramids.

Many of the visitors also used local lodging facilities and eating establishments nearby and made trips to other tourist destinations in the area such as the Anmyeondo Jurassic Museum, Farm Kamile Herb Garden, and the Chollipo Arboretum, thereby making an even greater contribution ot the local economy.

The committee estimates the festival's economic inducement effect to have reached about KRW 86 billion for the county.
