Geumsan Perilla Leaf Sales Reach KRW 50 Bln for 2nd Year
According to Yonhap News,

(DAEJEON=Yonhap News) For the second year in a row, the South Chungcheong county of Geumsan has sold over KRW 50 billion worth of perilla leaves.

According to the county on January 5, perillas leaf sales reached KRW 51.5 billion (9,117 tons) in 2017, a 3.1 percent increase from the KRW 50 billion (8,948 tons) the previous year.

The recent growth of the local perilla industry can be attributed to the county's efforts in quality control to build a distinct brand image.

Early on, the county introduced the government's GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) system to locally grown perilla leaves, and has also modernized the production system by introducing a groundwater cleaning system and a farm traceability system.

This year, the county plans to support the establishment of 77 perilla leaf export complexes, 1 smart farm, 50 joint GAP and eco-friendly facilities, small standardized packaging, and promotional events and marketing to help farms enter new markets.
