Chungnam-do Selected as Model Municipality for Environment and Energy Policy

Chungnam-do has been selected as a model municipal government for environment and energy policy.

The province is being recognized for its water management unification policy and the temporary shutdown of old coal-fired power plants and early closures.

According to Chungnam-do's announcement on May 10, the province, along with Jeju Province, was selected as a model municipality by the "Evironment and Energy Policy Evaluation Commission of 100 People" during the 42nd Jeju Civic Environment Forum.

The committee for environmental and energy policy evaluation is a group that evaluates the government's environmental energy policy every year, and has been operated by the Citizens' Institute for Environmental Studies.

Chungnam-do was acknowledged for contributing to the unification policy of water management, fine dust control measures, temporary and early closures of aged coal-fired power plants and cancellation of the 2nd power plant of Dangjin Eco Power coal-fired power plant.

In particular, the province has been organizing an international conference on eco-friendly energy conversion to make the switch to eco-friendly energy from last year. The province has been collecting ideas and drawing up a detailed operation plan.

Last July, the government enacted the "Ordinance for Strengthening Air Pollutant Emission Standards for Coal-Fired Power Plants" to improve the air quality, strengthen the management of air pollutant sites and manage emission sources.
