Chungnam-do Signs a Sisterhood Agreement with Sichuan Province

Chungnam-do Province will enhance the relationship with Sichuan Province, which is in the center of the Western China Development Plan and the One Belt One Road Initiative, and also expand exchanges cooperation in various fields including economy.

On September 3, Yang Seung-jo, the governor of Chungnam signed a sisterhood agreement with Yin Li, the governor of Sichuan at the Provincial Government Building.

Chungnam Province proposed the agreement at the Chungnam-China Local Government Cooperation Meeting. The agreement was approved by the provincial assembly after going through several working level meetings.

According to the agreement, both provinces will pursue mutual development through exchanges and cooperation in various fields including industry, agriculture, science technology, culture, education, sports, hygiene, human resources and social welfare.

Chungnam Province is expecting that the agreement will strengthen the Province's positioning and revitalize exchanges with China by gaining a foothold in western China.

"Strengthened relationship with Sichuan holds significant meaning since the Province plays a leading role in economic development of western China as the center of national projects," said Mr. Yang,, adding, "Taking this opportunity, I look forward to achieving mutual development of both regions by strengthening exchanges in fields such as youth and sports, culture and tourism, economy, agriculture, welfare and environment."
