Chungnam to Attract Chinese Group Tourists

Groups of Chinese tourists are coming to Chungnam Region.

It is due to eased regulation on group tourists from China to Korea and promotion strategies of Chungnam Province.

The province announced on November 4 that a total of 509 China, 191 on October 23, 67 on 26 and 251 on 30 through Tourist Korea, a dedicated travel agency for China in Chungnam.

These tourists visited Asan Oeam Village and Hyundai Motors Asan Plant as part of the two-day trip.

The province is expecting to have 1,000 Chinese group tourists this month and 2,000 more by end of the year.

"We have been facing challenges in attracting Chinese tourists due to conflicts because of THAAD allocation, but thanks to the peaceful situation in the Korean Peninsula as well as the eased regulation, we are achieving our goals," said Cho Han-yeong, Director General of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Provincial Office. "We will make efforts to attract more overseas group tourists by providing incentives to travel agencies and promoting on-line and off-line PR activities."

Considering that the province doesn't have enough shopping malls for tourists, it is planning to revitalize regional economy by operating special product markets in tourist sites through consultation with cities and counties.
