Chungnam-do to cut air pollutants emission by 35% in 3 years

(HONGSEONG=Yonhap News) Governor Yang Seung-jo of Chungnam-do said that "we will cut air pollutants emission by 35% in three years compared to 2015" on February 15.

At the "ceremony to appoint 10th Chungnam's sustainable development committee" held at the provincial government office, he made such remarks adding that "we will set the target of air pollutant reduction as 98,671 tons in 2022".

He also mentioned that "with the public-private committee participated by citizens and experts, and by operating an environmental community participated by local governments, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon, affected by fine dust we will build a capacity to respond collectively. Internationally, we will work together with Jingsu Province of China which signed on an agreement to improve air quality."

Lastly he said "in the 3rd International Conference on Coal Phase-out and Energy Transition, we will establish Northeast Asia's climate environment solidarity with a target of phasing out coal and reducing greenhouse gas," promising that "we will set and achieve the goal of particular matter (PM2.5) density as 15㎍/㎥, higher than government goal of 17㎍/㎥".

Chungnam's 10th sustainable development committee members come from the public, private, industry, and academic and will work out plans to implement Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for two years.
