Taean-gun to utilize mudflats and peat in fostering the marine recreation industry

(TAEAN=Yonhap News) Taean-gun, Chungnam is to foster the marine recreation industry taking advantage of regionl resources such as mudflats and peat.

On June 11, Taean-gun announced that Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST), charged with research on "study on marine recreation resources of Taean," launched the study on the region.

This study is to look into reserves, location, and ingredients of mudflats and peats, unique to Taean, build a database (DB) and operate programs of Taean Marine Recreation Pilot Center, in a stable manner.

KIOST is to study regional mudflats and extract samples by May next year, suggesting ingredients of these resources and how to utilize them.

Taean-gun plans to come up with scientific base to utilize marine recreational resources of Taean, and develop detailed project plan for fostering the marine recreation industry.

The peat was found last year, for the first time in Korea, in the coast of Sowon-myeon, Taean-gun.

Peat is an accumulation of partially decayed vegetation or organic matter, rich in biologically active substances, with high quantities of humic and fulvic acids. Peat contains bio-minerals, trace elements, vitamins, amino acids and fatty acids, which are bioavailable to the human skin. The unique molecular structure of the substance is so fine that it penetrates the skin and rejuvenates cells. It is known for skin care, anti-aging ,and anti-inflammatory.
