Seosan city to establish a biz-support center helping petrochemical companies further advance research work

According to Yonhap News,

The city of Seosan, South Chungcheong Province rolled out a plan to build out a new business support center helping local petrochemical companies further advance research work and technology development within Daesan industrial complex, a cluster like zone where major chemical plants are concentrated near South Chungcheong Province. The city government said at the press conference held on May 4, “the municipal project to accommodate the biz-center was selected as part of national open contests of ‘2021 smart project to build out the technology base’ led by Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.”

The construction project is reported to cost almost KRW 19.9 billion and be underway for the period from 2021 through 2023. Even if Daesan complex is one of the third largest national industrial clusters, along with Ulsan and Joennam complex, where oil and gas processing plants are agglomerated as part of key growth drivers in Korea, it has yet to have a city-level research lab to support petrochemical technologies, a holdup for many local businesses.

Seosan city has been working on to join the MOTIE’s open contest, while signing an MOU with the provincial authorities to get the project take its stride since last October. Once it’s established the lab appears to serve as a main hub of testing ground, enlisting alliance among private sector businesses, academia and institutional bodies, whereas running a big data center collecting and putting valuable information into viable resources to be employed.
