Daegju welcomed the decision to build a water technology certification institute in Daegu water cluster

According to Yonhap News,

(DAEGU=Yonhap News) On May 10, Daegu city welcome the attraction of Korean water technology certification institute, a key to the cluster of water cluster, and launched activities to foster the water industry as nation's strategic industry.

The Ministry of Environment announced that it plans to build Korean water technology certification institute, specialized in water certification, in Daegu's water industry cluster in the coming month.

In response, Daegu city welcomed the decision, saying "With the Korean water technology certification institute, we can establish a one-stop support system for the water industry, encompassing R&D, certification, commercialization, and entry to overseas markets" in a press conference.

A city official added that "The institute is to improve certification expertise and secure fairness in certification in water equipment products, water purifier, among others. In the past, public trust in the water certification was so low that there was even rumor of 'self-certification'. However, now we can address such concerns and have a chance to make the certification system as a global brand, as the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) of the U.S. did."

With the water industry cluster reaching 98 percent of construction completion in National Industrial Complex in Dalseong-gun, Daegu city sees that water technology certification institute gives the city an advantage in activating the cluster and attracting outstanding water-related companies.

More than 150 water-related companies are expected to move into the water industry cluster. For now, the cluster attracted 24 companies including Lotte Chemical and PPI systems with KRW 271.4 billion investment, and creation of 856 new jobs.

A city mayor said, "With the water technology certification institute, we completed the final piece of puzzle in Daegu's water industry," adding that "We will take Daegu to the hub of global water industry by creating 10 global technologies, KRW 700 billion exports, and 15,000 new jobs by 2025."

He added that "Daegu is building a global network by holding the 2015 World Water Forum and MOU with cities on water industry. Building on that, we will actively support water-related companies to go global."
