According to Yonhap news,

Gwangju-si has formulated a blueprint for the development of the old sites of Chonbang and Ilshin Textile where "The Hyundai" will be located, and the development of a bus terminal, where a project to create a compound including the expansion of Gwangju Shinsegae Department will proceed.

According to Gwangju-si on January 21, the city's delegation including Mayor Kang visited Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan, on January 18-22, and toured high-tech complex buildings and urban regeneration and redevelopment sites.

Business leaders including Park Ju-hyung, CEO of Shinsegae, and Park Se-jin, managing director of Kumho Express, also accompanied the delegation to discuss development plans.

Starting with the state-of-the-art complex "Roppongi Hills," the delegation toured: "Ariake Garden" built to foster the MICE industry and create an international tourism hub; "Midtown Yaesu" linking Tokyo Station and Terminal; "Azabudai Hills" and "Toranomon Hills," complex shopping & cultural facilities; and "Takashimadaira", an urban redevelopment site.

The delegation also met with officials from 'Mori Building Company', a leading real estate development company of Japan which led the redevelopment of Tokyo's city center over the past 20 years, to discuss public-private cooperative development.

The connectivity of working, learning, resting, eating, and enjoying within a 10-minute walking distance caught the delegation's attention.

Gwangju-si has proposed a plan to create a "city in the city" that will concentrate LPW (Living, Play, and Working) functions within a 15-minute distance through the urban complex development, which will be promoted simultaneously in Im-dong (Textile Factory) and Gwangcheon-dong (Bus Terminal).

Mayor Kang said, "we will establish a detailed strategy centered on the 'LPW' space where living, enjoying, and working all coming together."
