In January this year, exports of Gwangju and Jeollanam-do grew 20 % year-on-year.

According to the "Gwangju-Jeonnam Import and Export Trends in January 2024 " released by the Gwangju Customs Office on February 15, exports rose 20.0 percent to USD 6.245 billion while imports increased 3.0 percent to USD 4.258 billion, compared to the same month last year, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 1.987 billion.

Exports in Gwangju climbed 4.1% year-on-year to USD 1.488 billion in January and imports declined 17.9% to USD 529 million, which led to a trade surplus of USD 959 million.

By item, exports of transportation equipment (17.4%), tires (17.0%), and machinery (28.7%) went up, while exports of semiconductors (23.4%) and home appliances (16.4%) went down.

On the other hand, imports of rubber (119.7%) and home appliances (12.8%) increased, while imports of semiconductors (7.6%), chemical products (0.8%), and machinery (36.3%) dropped.

By region, exports increased to the United States (3.0%), the EU (44.6%), and Latin America (101.2%), while exports fell to Southeast Asia (20.1%) and China (3.5%).

Meanwhile, imports from the United States (41.8%) rose, while imports decreased from Southeast Asia (2.6%), China (47.2%), the EU (46.7%), and Japan (47.3%).
