According to Yonhap News,

Gwangju City and Jeonnam-do (South Jeolla Province) agreed to jointly organize 2012 World Korean Business Convention.

Gwangju City said on February 11th “we had discussions with Jeonnam-do, which has intended to hold 2012 World Korean Business Convention, and agreed to jointly organize the event in order to achieve co-development of the regions and generate synergy effects.”

Accordingly, the two local governments plan to submit a memorandum to organize the event and aggressively make efforts to win the bid for 2012 World Korean Business Convention.

The strong candidate for the venue is Kimdaejung Convention Center, and infrastructure of Gwangju and Jeonnam will be fully utilized.

World Korean Business Convention has been held since 2002 to strengthen economic prowess of Korea by building a network of 7 million overseas Koreans and domestic business people. Overseas Koreans Foundation and local governments have jointly organized the Convention.

The Convention is a global business event where about 3,500 people including domestic entrepreneurs and 1,500 overseas Korean business people from 40 countries attend.

Gwangju City said “organizing World Korean Business Convention will serve as an opportunity to attract investment from overseas Koreans, venture into foreign markets, and achieve co-development of local governments of Korea.”

The location of 2012 World Korean Business Convention will be determined at the meeting of the operation committee in Vancouver, Canada in late April.
