According to Yonhap News,

Gwangju City said on February 27th that it signed an MOU with the World Eminence Chinese Business Association (WECBA) for strategic cooperation.

Gwangju Mayor Gang Un-tae had a meeting with Chairman Lu Junqing of WECBA and had an MOU signing ceremony at Beijing.

WECBA is an association of Chinese business people around the world and has subsidiary groups. The Association conducts cooperative projects for member companies, an advisory service business, and voluntary public services.

Under the MOU, Gwangju City and WECBA will support the City’s efforts to court investment and WECBA member companies’ visit to Gwangju, and carry out substantial exchanges by helping WECBA member companies move into Gwangju R&D Special Zone.

Mayor Gang said he plans to promote Gwangju R&D Special Zone into an open special zone where Korea, China, and Japan are involved and asked WECBA member companies and research institutes to pay special attention to the zone.

Also, the Mayor signed an MOU for cooperation and exchange with Kitakyushu, Japan on February 21st and concluded an agreement for friendship and cooperation with Dalian, China. These moves are aimed to develop the city into an international R&D special zone.

An official of Gwangju said “we are committed to induce substantial exchange and attract Chinese investment and tourists on the back of the strategic cooperation with WECBA.”
