According to Yonhap News,

Major universities in Gwangju and Jeonnm-do (South Jeolla Province) are strengthening cooperation with universities in Vietnam, an emerging country in Southeast Asia.

Officials of Dongshin University, chaired by Chancellor Kim Pil-sik, will visit major universities in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi for six days from March 10th to devise measures for international exchange.

The officials of Dongshin University will attend the ceremony to celebrate Hoa Chat’s elevation to the status of university and visit Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology to have consultations on the exchange of students and material resources and joint research.

Chosun University has pioneered exchange with Vietnamese universities and is now promoting the Korean culture in Vietnam by launching Sejong School.

Chosun University was the first to establish Sejong School at Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities and about 130 students completed the course of the school.

Chancellor Kim Yun-su of Chonnam National University had a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung of Vietnam who was visiting Korea for the G20 summit meeting last November to discuss exchange and cooperation between medical institutions of the two universities.

Chonnam National University will dispatch a medical support team to Vietnam from next year through cooperation with its affiliated university hospital to be aggressively engaged in education and training of medical staff, medical instrument instructions, hospital management, medical research, and medical services.

Also, the university plans to set up Sejong School in universities in Hanoi by utilizing its own language school to provide Korean and English education, increase the number of exchange students, and invite Vietnamese students for summer schools.

The increasing advancement of regional universities into Vietnam is attributed to the Korean wave in Southeast Asia, subsequent rise in Vietnamese students studying in Korea, and the increasing international marriage.

An official of Dongshin University said “we plan to implement various exchange and cooperation measures after this visit to Vietnam.”
