This MOU was prepared for mutual cooperation between consortiums as a follow-up measure to the selection at the public offering, "2023 Water electrolysis-based Hydrogen Production Base Construction Project" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) in August.

This MOU contains: cooperating for establishment of a clean hydrogen production base in the East Sea; discovering and fostering new projects in the hydrogen sector to revitalize the industrial economy of Gangwon State; attracting companies and creating jobs; and mutual cooperation to revitalize the clean hydrogen industry.

Under the agreement, a 2.5MW water electrolysis-based hydrogen production base in connection with renewable energy such as solar power (3.2MW) and biomass (30MW) will be built at the Korea East-West Power P2G demonstration complex in Bukpyeong Industrial Complex, producing 1 ton of clean hydrogen per day by investing about KRW 12.8 billion by 2026.

Korea East-West Power will oversee projects in terms of producing and supplying renewable energy and operating facility, Daewoo E&C will build production bases and shipping facilities, and JEAENG will take part in production base design, operation and management.

In particular, the hydrogen charging station for commercial vehicles will be capable of producing and supplying hydrogen directly at the site. In addition, it will be built as a facility that can simultaneously charge commercial and passenger vehicles in preparation for the conversion of cargo trucks into hydrogen vehicles accessing the East Sea Port.

Deputy Mayor said, "When the international community is focusing on preoccupying the hydrogen market, we will be able to contribute to the development of carbon-free green hydrogen production technology domestically through cooperation between local governments and private companies"
