This year, over 10,000 individuals engaged in workation, effectively combining remote work with relaxation in Jeju. According to 16 private office facilities participating in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province's workation voucher support program, 9,760 people utilized these facilities, including employees from companies outside of Jeju, bringing the total to over 10,000 when including individual users.

Jeju workation proves satisfactory for both companies and employees

Various professionals, including those from companies such as HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Daesang Wellife, NAVER Cloud Corp., and government organizations like the National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage, as well as startups and freelancers, have experienced workation in the Jeju region.

The survey conducted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in October-November, targeting 1,112 employees, also found that Jeju (31.8%) is the most preferred location among the 17 surveyed regions.

Jeju Governor Oh Younghun remarked, "Jeju is actively pursuing a shift in its tourism strategy, moving beyond the traditional focus on healing to embrace a new paradigm that combines work and healing, as seen in workation. Through Jeju workation, a system fostering communication and collaboration among employees, researchers, and developers from various companies will yield even greater achievements." He further emphasized, "I hope that people across the nation consider Jeju as their emotional homeland, seeking both healing and professional success here."

In 2024, Jeju plans to expand and advance the program, aiming not only to attract businesses through the expansion of corporate networks but also to promote economic vitality by invigorating private workation industries and stimulating consumption in surrounding areas. The goal is to attract 20,000 users to experienced workation in Jeju. Collaboration with organizations such as the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) will also be strengthened, with plans to increase the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises located in the capital area in Jeju workation.

Choi Myeongdong, the director of the Economic Vitality Bureau in Jeju, stated, "As Jeju gains attention as the optimal workation destination, we will strive to solidify its position not only as a national but also as a global workation hub. This includes improving infrastructure and developing differentiated leisure programs in collaboration with the local community."
