Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do, announced on May 24 that it will push for 12 projects to expand tourism infrastructure by 2030 with the investment of KRW 1.13 trillion on five islands, with Wonsan-do at the center, in order to become a tourism hub city on the West coast.
The city will build Daemyung Sono Resort in Wonsan-do, the largest tourist complex on the West coast, with the private investment of KRW 760.4 billion, and carry out various projects such as construction of a marine leisure sports center and health care complex, a marina port complex, and restoration of the tidal flat ecosystem.
It will also install a 3.9km-long marine cable car for connection of the islands-Wonsando and Sapsido. The private capital of KRW100 billion will be invested in the project.
In Sapsido, KRW 46 billion will be invested in the 'Art Island' project to create an artist village, a forest performance hall, and a healing forest.
In Godaedo, KRW 7.4 billion will be invested to build a missionary road for missionary Karl Gützlaff, the first road themed of Protestant missionary, Starlight Garden, and a pilgrim shelter, and a marine cultural tourism facility will be built.
The city will spend KRW 1.7 billion to build a marine leisure experience center where water leisure and skin scuba are possible.
The city plans to invest KRW 60 billion to develop sea stations where ships can dock on each of the islands - Sapsido, Hyojado, Janggodo, and Godaedo, and also attract an island international biennale for expansion of the cultural infrastructure.
