Cheonan-si mayor held a press conference at City Hall on June 3, announcing 3 goals -carbon neutral city responding to climate crisis, sustainable circular economy city, and environment city with citizens safety, 6 strategies, and 18 tasks.

The city is determined to invest KRW 1.4 trillion in total project cost by 2030 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% compared to 2018, achieve 2nd grade environmental standards for urban streams, and achieve the park access rate of 13%.

As for strategies for each of the six areas, it suggested the establishment of the environment safety capital, transition to carbon-neutral city, establishment of resources cycling clean city, sustainable water cycle management, establishment of smart safety environment, and preservation of ecosystem and restoration of forest.

For transition to a carbon-neutral city, it decided to continuously implement measures for fine dust reduction and implement a roadmap for 40% greenhouse gas reduction.

It also plans to build a clean and resources circulating city by reducing the amount of household waste by 30%, supporting development of green industry, and supporting turning waste into energy.

For a sustainable water circulation city, it will build a water usage system, and endeavor to construct and maintain sewer pipelines, improve water quality of urban streams, and manage safe water supply.

It will also make efforts for conservation and forest restoration by protecting ecological resources, animals and plants, and establishing a network of urban green areas, among others.

As of 2020, the water quality of Cheonancheon, an urban stream in Cheonan-si, is 4th grade, and Cheonan's greenhouse gas emission amounted to about 10 million tons as of 2018.
