Gangwon gears up for early commercialization of future clean energy, artificial sun

Gangwon-do has started to secure a new growth engine through the early commercialization of artificial solar, clean energy for the future.

The provincial government held an MOU signing ceremony for 'installation of artificial solar base center and GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) center' with Chuncheon City, Kangwon National University, and Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) at Sejong Hotel in Chuncheon on the afternoon of December 20.

With the MOU as an opportunity, Kangwon National University is to go ahead with R&D on core technology with opening ot the artificial solar base center scheduled for January next year.

The KISTI will support the advancement of data-based R&D by establishing giga-class GPU centers.

The province and Chuncheon city promised administrative support and the role as a control tower for the project.

These organizations also agreed to cooperate on the project of creating a national artificial solar research complex in the future.

The provincial government also held a briefing session to report on the artificial solar cluster creation project, presenting a blueprint to develop as a high-tech industrial city of the future.

To this end, they will focus on the research to foster the artifical solar cluster industries by 2025.

They've agreed to foster the province as a center of artificial solar research by 2035, preparing a base for commercialization.

After that, they plan to create energy independent city and carbon zero industrial complex through the advancement of the artificial solar industry ecosystem.

The provincial government will set a mid-and long-term implementation plan by preparing implementation roadmap by major tasks.
