- KOTRA broke the ground on the S.Korea Pavilion on Dec. 9, near the city of Dubai
- "Under the theme of Mobility, Korea will showcase excellence in technology"

A groundbreaking ceremony, attended by dozens of worldwide leaders and representatives from public-private entities that include KOTRA’s president & CEO (Pyung-Oh, Kwon), the Consul General in Dubai, the chairman & CEO of Ssangyong Motor Company and the president & vice president of the International Dubai Expo Committee, was held near the site of Jebel Ali where S. Korean Pavilion opens its door at Expo Dubai 2020.

Expo Dubai 2020, one of the International Registered Exhibitions that open every five years, will take place near the Middle East and African nations for the first time throughout the history. This six month long international festival begins on Oct. 20, 2020 – Apr. 10, 2021, in the nearby port town of Jebel Ali, south of Dubai.

The expo is predicted to attract roughly 25 million visitors, international bodies and delegates from 200 countries throughout the world. Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) will jointly run the events, developing a showcase under the theme of ‘Smart Korea, Moving the World to You’, inside the Mobility Zone, spanning 4,651.41㎡. The place highlights Korea’s competitiveness and fascinating cultural content as part of nation branding to make Korea well present to the world.

The main organizing body, KOTRA, said “It’s super large so to say if compared to those of other members invited. We’d like to design the zone something unique, innovative and full of amazing attendee experiences where visitors can enjoy visual, audio and all types of sensational shocks we’ve made, mobility technology and visions we provide as a global leader in this upcoming era of the fourth industrial revolution and 5G networks.”

“KOTRA will make an all-out effort for the sake of great success in the expo, which in turn contributes a lot, I believe, to trade, investment and cultural exchange between the UAE and Korea.”, added CEO, Pyung-Oh, Kwon.
