According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL=Yonhap News) The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) said June 13 that it will finalize the Stem Cell / Regeneration Medicine R&D Implementation Plan and hold a contest for research and development (R&D) projects that will run through July 8.

In addition to the KRW 17.5 billion previously invested, the ministry plans to invest an additional KRW 15.5 billion in research to develop stem cell/regeneration medicine and related technology.

In the second half of the year, a project called the Star Project will be launched to develop common technology, facilitate international joint research and induce private investment in R&D.

“Our intention is to open up a new path for the treatment of rare/incurable diseases by advancing development and the commercialization of medicine to treat these diseases. We will pave the groundwork for making stem cell / regeneration medicine a high-value added, core growth engine,” said a ministry official.
