(1) Reasons for Proposal

Since the amount of accumulated waste plastic in Korea is increasing and the instability of the recycling market is growing due to the drop in oil prices and the impact of COVID-19, this Notification aims to restrict the import of waste plastics of some materials with a large amount of accumulation to promote the recycling of waste plastics generated in Korea.

(2) Major Provisions

A. Establish items that are prohibited from being imported to promote domestic waste recycling (Article 2) 

Prohibit polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polystyrene (PS) among synthetic polymer compounds from being imported

B. Provide the basis for exceptional conditional import permits for the waste designated as prohibited items in Article 2 (Article 3)
