(1) Reasons for Proposal
As fires recently broke out in electrical energy storage facilities based on energy storage systems (ESS), this National Fire Safety Code aims to define fire prevention facilities and safety standards for electrical energy storage facilities to prevent fire accidents and the spread of damage by comprehensively considering the fire characteristics and installation environments of electrical energy storage facilities.
(2) Major Provisions
A. Define the terms of electrical energy storage systems and related systems (Article 3).
B. Require fire extinguishers to be installed in every room partitioned in electrical energy storage facilities (Article 4).
C. Require adaptable automatic fire suppression systems to be installed in outdoor facilities whose risk of spreading a fire to nearby buildings is low (Article 5).
D. Define sprinkler installation standards in electrical energy storage facilities to sprinkle at least 12.2 /min/m2 of water for more than 30 minutes (Article 6).
E. Define the type of detector installed in automatic fire detection systems (Article 7).
F. Define installation standards for automatic fire notification systems (Article 8).
G. Define installation locations for better firefighting activities, and require the installation of fire suppression sections and discharge facilities (Articles 9 through 11).
H. State that automatic fire suppression system and sprinkler installation provisions may not apply if electrical energy storage systems are recognized for their fire safety performance (Article 12).
