(1) Reasons for Proposal
As the number of patients with chronic diseases and the aging of the population increase, consumer interest in health management and higher quality of life through food also increase, and therefore this amendment aims to revise the classification system, standards, and specifications for foods for special medical purposes and elderly-friendly food to develop and supply various types of food necessary for patients and the elderly and to build a customized food safety management system.
Also, it aims to supply safe food to the public by revising maximum residue limits for pesticides used at home and abroad.

1) Increased consumer interest and demand for foods for patients as chronic diseases increase
2) Upgrade foods for special medical treatment into large categories and reorganize them into an independent food group
3) Subdivide the types of existing patient foods and reclassify them into standard and customized nutrition formula food according to product characteristics
4) Categorize dietary type meal management foods in the form of daily meals for the chronically ill and establish standards and specifications
5) Establish a basis for developing and supplying various types and forms of food for patients and a customized management system

1) The standards and specifications need to be improved so that food suitable for the elderly can be manufactured and distributed according to the aging population
2) Provide common standards and specifications for elderly-friendly foods in a separate chapter, and establish a viscosity specification for the convenience of food consumption by elderly people who are prone to get food caught in the throat
3) Promote the elderly-friendly food industry and ensure consumer choice opportunities by managing standards and specifications that meet the characteristics of consumers

1) The reevaluation of maximum residue limits for pesticides used at home and abroad is needed.
