Reasons for Amendment

There is a need to review* the regulations in the Guidelines on Recombinant DNA Experiments which were established in accordance with Article 14 of the Biotechnology Support Act to prevent biological dangers posed by biotechnological research.

* Articles 29 (Review of Regulations) and 30 (Review Deadline) of the Guidelines

Major Provisions

A. Amend wording in accordance with amendment* of relevant Acts or amendment** of relevant provisions

* Change of wording in accordance with elevation of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (September 2020) (references to “Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” in the Guidelines to be changed to read “Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency”)

** Partial Amendment to the Biotechnology Support Act (19 May 2020) (regarding amendment to Article 1)

B. Include new organisms, make amendments in accordance with scientific name changes, etc. (Article 5 (1), attached Table 2, amended)

C. Amend wording regarding criteria for installation of research facilities (biosafety level 3) (Article 6 (2), attached Table 3, amended)
