1. Reason for Revision and Main Contents
The Food Sanitation Act has been revised (Law No. 20347; promulgated on February 20, 2024; effective from February 21, 2025) to safeguard the lives and health rights of the public by permitting dietitians holding a cooking license or cooks holding a dietitian's license to concurrently perform the roles of both professions only at meal service facilities below a certain size as prescribed by the Prime Ministerial Decree.
In addition, the Food Sanitation Act has been revised (Law No. 20438; promulgated on September 20, 2024; effective from March 21, 2025) to enhance local legislative authority and promote local autonomy. As part of these revisions, the requirement for local government heads to "report" cases of food poisoning to the Minister of Food and Drug Safety has been changed to a requirement to "notify" the Minister. Accordingly, the revision aims to improve subordinate regulations to align with these changes.
