1. Background and Need for Government Intervention

  • In order to prevent frequent collisions between vessels and structures such as maritime bridges, an amendment has been completed to require vessels to report their waterline heights when passing through 15 bridges and 4 transmission line zones nationwide, effective from July 9, 2024.

  • With the planned expansion of the Mokpo Metropolitan Maritime Traffic Control Center's jurisdiction, there is a need to additionally require vessels to report their waterline heights when passing through the Jindo Bridge.


2. Regulatory Content

  • Vessels with a waterline height of 16 meters or more wishing to pass through the Jindo Bridge must have their captain report the maximum waterline height to the relevant maritime traffic control agency.

    • (Current) Report when passing through 15 bridges and 4 transmission line zones nationwide → (Amended) Report when passing through 16 bridges and 4 transmission line zones nationwide.
