Reasons for Proposal
The current Act requires any manufacturer of products using packaging materials to comply with packaging material and method standards to discourage packaging waste and promote recycling, and the Minister of Environment recommends the manufacturer to label its packaging material and method on the package.
To discourage packaging waste and promote recycling, it is necessary to obligate the labeling of the packaging material and method to not only comply with packaging standards but also provide packaging-related information to consumers so that the manufacturer can reduce packaging waste voluntarily.
In this regard, this Act aims to obligate the manufacturer of any product which must comply with packaging material and method standards to label the packaging material and method in an effort to discourage packaging waste and promote recycling (Article 9 (4)).
