According to Yonhap News,

(JEJU=Yonhap News) Representatives from peace cities around the world will meet in Jeju to discuss ways to establish a system for cooperation in Jeju.

On May 6, Jeju Province announced it will hold a session on Establishing a system of cooperation among global peace cities at the 13th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity to be held on June 16.

Peace cities are designated by central or municipal governments and include cities such as Jeju, Korea, Osnabrück, Germany and Nagasaki, Japan.

The three peace cities plan to share successful cases of easing tensions among countries in times of heightened conflict through the exchanges and cooperation of peace cities and work to create an atmosphere of peaceful proliferation.

Osnabrück was the benchmark city for Jeju in 2005 when officials were drawing up the peace city designation plan.

This is the second session for peace cities. Last year, Dean proposed the first World Peace Cities session in conjunction with the Jeju Forum.

Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Director Kim Heung-doo stated, "We will discuss the ways Jeju can cooperate with other global peace cities in detail and work to make Jeju an exemplary island of peace."
