Primary Industry

Jeju’s agricultural industry is a traditional and fundamental industry, accounting for the largest area of land use on Jeju Island.
The gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of Jeju Island accounts for only 1% of the country’s GDP. However, the output of vegetables and fruits produced on the island accounts for 7.7% of the country as a whole as of 2018, showing that Jeju is a primary industry-intensive province.
In particular, Jeju produces 32.9% of the country’s cabbage crop, 45.9% of carrots, 25.6% of white radishes, and 99.8% of tangerines, as well as 5.3% of pigs. Jeju is one of the country’s primary agricultural, fishery, and livestock producing regions.
This is attributable to Jeju’s pristine natural environment, the fertile soil due to the island’s volcanic origins, and its mild climate, all of which provide ideal conditions for producing high-quality products throughout the year.
