Jeju to host the 9th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks

According to Yonhap News,

(JEJU=Yonhap News) Jeju World Heritage Office announced on September 17 that at the closing ceremony of the 8th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks, held from September 8 to 14 in Trentino, Italy Jeju was selected as the next host city.

Jeju was selected as the host city after competing with Danxiashan World Geopark in China.

The island drew support from the member countries of the World Geopark by promoting Jeju's easy access, conference infrastructure and differentiated programs to host the Conference in 2020.

The International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks is UNESCO's official program which is held every two years. The Conference in 2020 is expected to be attended by more than 1,200 people from 70 countries.

"The 2020 International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks is expected to have various ripple effect on Jeju by showing the value of the triple crown for the UNESCO International Protected Area, and we will try to be ready to impress the world," said Jeon Seong-tae, the Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs
