According to Yonhap News,

A photovoltaic (PV) -based battery swapping stations (BSSs for short) to supply power for EVs came out for the first time in Jeju Island. The local authorities announced on Jun. 10 that residents are given access to the BSS charger networks, which enable dozens of EVs to suck up electricity at a time near Morowat parking spaces, close to Jeju International Airport.

The project is part of national solutions to widespread EV charging stations across the country, backed by private-public sponsors such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Jeju Island and Jeju Energy Corporation, etc. The municipal authorities have built out the charging infrastructure by each community district to fulfill a four-year investment plan, which started last year with a total of KRW 8.5 billion in city budgets.

The first phase of the project resulted in renewable energy facilities such as PV power stations with energy capacity of 85㎾, energy storage systems to save 156㎾ of electricity, three super-fast charging stations to top up EVs with 100㎾ electricity and a unit of charging point, exclusive to the disabled and three normal types near Morowat. The provincial authority opens the public charging networks newly installed for four-day free trial period from Jun. 10 to Jun. 13.
