Jeju to spend KRW 9.7 bln on its 5-year development plan to supply safe livestock products

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced the launch of its five-year development plan which starts from this year to facilitate hygienic practice and to boost exports in the livestock industry by the end of 2025. The plan includes detailed guidelines on; securing industry base which ensures safety and hygiene in food manufacturing and processing; imposing tougher but highly interactive and systematic food safety control protocols; and helping businesses provide customized products and services to boost export.

The plan is reported to cost as much as KRW 9.76 in total, entailing 19 separate tasks to be carried out by the end of the year 2025.

With the budget draft, the provincial authorities are set to offer a package of financial aids covering (SMART) HACCP certification, a food traceability system, online marketing and promotion and workplace improvement as a means for better food safety management. In order to help the livestock industry in Jeju Island further expand into global markets, the province will also reshuffle its organization, enhancing or transferring workforce to boost exports, and to form a special task force based upon industry-academia and government collaboration for policy setting.
