Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Jeju TechnoPark announced on August 25 that a food processing center currently in operation will be renewed into 'Clean functional food center' equipped with the latest infrastructure for development of functional foods.

The province and Jeju TechnoPark will modernize the aged facilities and equipment of the food processing center located in Bio Convergence Center within Jeju National Universitty and install facilities meeting the standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) by December this year.

This project is proceeded as it has been selected for the public competition for a project to lay the groundwork for smart specialization hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) in 2020 with a total investment of KRW 10.1 billion (national funding of KRW 5.6 billion and provincial funding of KRW 4.5 billion).

The province expects that when the clean functional food center goes into operation, it will greatly contribute to production cost reduction and sales increase of companies, and income increase of farmers through utilization of Jeju's raw materials.
