According to Newsis,

Seogwipo City announced, Aug. 12, the delegation from Gorinchem City in the Netherlands paid a visit to the city to discuss details about the Seogwipo-Gorinchem exchange program for youth.

The visit aimed to resume the program as the pandemic subsided.

Both cities, back in September of 2019, signed an agreement on the Seogwipo-Gorinchem exchange program to advance the program which was put on hold due to the pandemic.

The delegation consisted of the former Deputy Mayor of Gorinchem, the President of the Hamel Foundation, and local high school teachers from Gorinchem City.

And the group also visited the Seogwipo City Hall, and shared their ideas upon the exchange program scheduled for next year.

Later, the delegation headed to Samsung Girls' High School to look around the school facilities and talk with the teachers about the program. The school expressed its intention to actively engage in the program.

"Even though the exchange program for youth has been suspended over the past years because of the pandemic, the school will cooperate in carrying out active exchange programs, starting from next year, including a home-stay for high schoolers," said the VIce-Mayor of Seogwipo City.

In the meantime, Gorinchem City is the hometown of Hendrick Hamel who was cast ashore in Seogwipo during the Joseon Dynasty. In that sense, Hamel led to exchanges between two cities. And they signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) on culture and tourism policy in 2017.
