According to Yonhap News,

The world's environment leaders combine wisdom to draw up plans for recovering nature, going beyond preserving nature.

The Environment Ministry and Jeju-do partnered up with the world's oldest and largest environment organization IUCN (The International Union for Conservation of Nature) and decided to hold '2022 Jeju IUCN Leaders Forum' at the Jeju International Convention Center in Seogwipo-si, Jeju for three days starting from Oct. 13.

The three have a history of co-hosting WCC (World Conservation Congress), often called an environment Olympic, back in 2012. With the Jeju Statement adopted then, Jeju had two rounds of the World Leaders' Conservation Forum in 2015 and 2018, respectively.

Starting from Jeju, the IUCN Leaders Forum is scheduled to be launched in several countries. The Forum always is held once every four years.

Meanwhile, the forum theme is 'Nature-positive Economy and Society Establishment.'

The Concept of Nature-positive has been discussed in the environmental field as a key agenda. And it refers to a move to bolster resilience of our planet and society in line with the bio-diversity recovery that is to begin conspicuously from 2030.

The forum will be joined by Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity; Yannick Glemarec, the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund; and Ministers of Environment from Uganda, Japan, Maldives and Finland.

On 13th, Environment Minister Han Hwa-jin will deliver an opening speech; Jeju Mayor Oh Young-Hoon and Razan Al Mubarak, the president of the IUCN will present congratulatory speeches; and Ban Ki-moon from the Ban Ki-moon Foundation For a Better Future will give a keynote speech.
