Google's artificial intelligence (AI) education program will be provided to university students in Jeju-do as early as the end of this year.

Jeju-do said on October 11 that it signed an agreement with Google Cloud for global AI talent training at the Google's Bay View campus in Silicon Valley Mountain View on October 10, local time.

Jeju's Governor Oh Young-hoon and Vice President Wilson White of Google's public policy team attended the signing ceremony.

Under the agreement, Jeju-do and Google Cloud plan to operate "Google Cloud AI Talent Training Program", an AI education program provided to university students in the province.

Jeju-do plans to offer a regular university education course in connection with the Regional Innovation System based on cooperation between local government-university (RIS) as well as educational programs using vacation camps.

Jeju's governor said, "Google's educational programs and AI chatbot technology will be very helpful in realizing Jeju's vistion for future industry," adding that "we will gradually expand cooperation with Google Cloud."

The training, in which Google's authorized education partners participate, consist of understanding AI based on Google cloud, BigQuery expert courses, online and offline technology education, and networking.

After completing the training course, students will also be supported to obtain Google Cloud certificates.

In addition, outstanding students will be selected through the presentation of team projects and result sharing sessions.

Jeju-do plans to expand the areas of cooperation with Google Cloud into administration, industry, and tourism, among others in such ways as developing a "Jeju-generative AI chatbot" that provides information on Jeju's tourist destinations, transportation, accommodation facilities, and restaurants.
