According to Yonhap News,

Joby Aviation, a U.S. electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developing company, will take part in the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) project in Jeju.

Jeju-do announced on October 12 that Joby agreed to establish a tourism-type UAM strategy, including air tours and passenger transportation, analyze the location of Vertiport (Vertical Flight + Port), and analyze Air Space to identify practical routes.

Joby is a company developing electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft and a leader in the development of aircraft for UAM commercialization as shown by delivering the world's first eVTOL to the U.S. Air Force on September 25.

Jeju's governor signed the agreement on "pilot project to start UAM service in Korea" with Joby and SK Telecom at the Joby's production plant in California on October 10 (local time).

Jeju's governor said, "Jeju has geographical and administrative advantages to become a leader in the UAM market," adding, "we plan to commercialize tourism-type UAM for the first time in Korea to resolve the acceptance issue raised in the early stages of the industry and secure profitability."

Founder & CEO JoeBen Bevirt of Joby said, "Jeju has the potential to become a landmark to verify Joby's UAM service," adding, "we appreciate Jeju's support in the process of preparing to start UAM service."

Following the signing ceremony, a trial flight was conducted to actually operate Joby's S4 aircraft.
