Jeju to invest KRW 55 bn over five yrs to foster the horse industry

On January 16, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced that it will invest KRW 11 billion over the five years in fostering the horse industry.

According to the province, it established '3rd 5-year comprehensive plan for fostering the horse industry', building on analysis of the achievements and shortcomings of the '2nd 5-year comprehensive plan for fostering the horse industry', carried out in 2019-2023.

The 3rd comprehensive plan, with investment of KRW 55 billion, consists of 52 specific projects in 4 areas under the vision of "leap-forward of horse industry and Jeju-do where horses and residents are happy".

Major projects include: advance the quality of horse meat in line with the strategy to popularize horse meat consumption, private equestrian competition in connection with the 3rd comprehensive plan to foster the horse industry by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and introduction of quality seed horses to revitalize the horse racing industry.

New projects include: ▲ creation and operation of recreation ranch of horses retired from racing ▲ revitalization of the equestrian industry linked to workcation (work+vacation) and ▲ standing trees and cultural festivals in Jeju horse grazing land.

An official from Jeju province said, "we achieved various tangible results from the 2nd comprehensive plan," adding that "we will focus on the 3rd comprehensive plan to lay the foundation for a new leap forward of the Jeju horse industry."

Previously, the province invested KRW 62.8 billion over the past five years for the 2nd comprehensive plan, carrying out 54 projects.
