A smart farm complex with a total project cost of KRW 24.2 billion for young farmers will be built in Aewol-eup, Jeju-si.
On January 26, Jeju-do announced that it plans to build a smart farm complex on the 4㏊ site of the Jeju Agricultural Technology Institute in Bongseong-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, from next year to 2027 and lease it to 24 young farmers.
The project will be carried out as it was selected as a public competition project for "creation of regional specialized lease-type smart farm", organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The project costs a total of KRW 24.2 billion, including KRW 14 billion in state funds and KRW 10.2 billion in local funds.
The smart farm complex will be built as a complex greenhouse which grows various crops such as ssam vegetables, strawberries, persimmons, and mangoes.
Information and communication technology will be used to automatically control the environment in the greenhouse, while adopting energy-saving facilities such as nutrient recycling systems and air heat and cooling systems.
Starting with design services and site maintenance in 2025, smart farms will be built in 2027 after carrying out construction of greenhouse and installation of heating and cooling facilities.
Following the completion of the smart farm, rental tenants will be recruited for young farmers aged 18 to 40. It is planned to select a total of 24 young farmers, with a size of around 1,600㎡ per person. Young farmers who have completed the two-year Smart Farm Innovation Valley curriculum will be given priority in getting the place.
The basic rental period is three years, which can be extended up to three years on a yearly basis after evaluation.
