According to Yonhap News,
Jeju-do will push for a global "Learn-cation" initiative in earnest, in collaboration with Princeton University in the United States.
"Learn-cation" is a term that combines "Learning" and "Vacation."
On January 31st, Jeju-do announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Princeton University and Jeju National University to promote the "Learn-cation" and to establish a new platform for international education and research.
The agreement was conducted online, taking into account the 14-hour time difference, with each institution sequentially signing by digital electronic signatures.
The main contents of the MOU include collaboration and operation of educational programs for Learn-cation, participation and cooperation in various programs to promote the value, vision, and future of Jeju, and other matters requiring close mutual cooperation.
The term of the agreement is five years from the signing date, and specific implementation details will be finalized through consultations.
This agreement marks the first Learn-cation MOU between Jeju-do and one of the top global universities, following multiple rounds of discussions between Jeju-do and Jeju National University since November of last year.
With this agreement, Jeju aims to activate exchanges with universities both domestically and internationally, developing the island into an open platform for research and education, and creating an innovative Learn-cation model.
By doing so, Jeju-do plans to attract outstanding university students and researchers from around the world, establishing the island as a hub for global education and research, where education, research, and industry create a virtuous cycle.
