According to Yonhap News,

On April 24, LS Electric announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the installation of a 10MW power conversion system (PCS) and a 40MWh energy storage system (ESS) on April 23 in Hanlim-eup, Jeju-si.

The ESS is expected to contribute to stabilizing the power grid by storing excess electricity generated and supplying it when demand surges in Jeju, where renewable energy production is thriving.

LS Electric, in a consortium with Igis Asset Management, Kunhwa, and SPV, participated in the bid for the 'Jeju First Long-duration BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) Construction Project' and was selected as the regional contractor for Hanlim-eup. The project is scheduled for completion and commercial operation by November this year.

Long-duration ESS systems typically allow for 4-hour storage and discharge cycles, making them effective for alleviating renewable energy output restrictions and stabilizing the power grid.

In Jeju-do, a region rich in renewable energy like solar and wind power, frequent output control measures are implemented as electricity generation from renewable energy often exceeds consumption.

Leveraging its smart energy business capabilities, LS Electric will be responsible for EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) for this project and will also manage operations and maintenance (O&M) for 15 years.
