According to Yonhap News,

Jeju-do and Jeonbuk State will collaborate on the development of content linking world heritage sites, based on their historical connections.

On October 13, Jeju-do signed a "Cultural Content and Historical Exchange Cooperation Agreement" with Jeonbuk State at the Jeju Provincial Office.

Through this agreement, the two regions plan to cooperate in areas such as enhancing the connection between world heritage sites and world documentary heritage, conducting joint research and exchange based on history and culture, developing tourism content using major tourist resources, and promoting the 2036 Summer Olympics bid to enhance the regional brand value of international cultural and sports events.

The two regions have continued academic exchanges since 2023 through the figure of Kim Gu (1211–1278), a native of Buan, Jeonbuk State, who served as the Jeju Provincial Governor during the Goryeo Dynasty. This agreement will promote practical cooperation between the two regions.

Kim Gu contributed to the formation of Jeju's stone wall culture by implementing a stone wall maintenance project during his tenure as the Jeju Provincial Governor. To honor his academic achievements, Jeonbuk State is constructing the Jeolla Confucianism Promotion Institute in Buan County and plans to build a Jeju-style stone wall within the institute's grounds.

Jeju's Governor Oh stated, "Through cultural exchanges with Jeonbuk State, I hope that Jeju's historical and cultural assets will be widely recognized, and that the cultural and tourism industries of both regions will grow together."
