According to Yonhap News,

A shipment of Korean beef and pork has been safely delivered to Singapore, marking the country's first-ever exports of such products to the Southeast Asian country, officials said Monday.

The shipment came about a month after South Korea and Singapore signed an official agreement on exports of "hanwoo," or Korean premium beef, and pork from the country's southern resort island of Jeju to Singapore following 10 years of negotiations.

A total of 4.5 tons of Jeju hanwoo and pork worth a combined 280 million won (US$190,000) have been shipped to Singapore, according to officials from the agriculture and food safety ministries.

Singapore is Korea's eighth export market for hanwoo after countries such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and the United Arab Emirates.

"Exports of our livestock products to Singapore, which has strict import standards, will help South Korea further elevate its reputation for livestock-product safety management system," an official at the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, vowing further efforts to expand Seoul's exports of livestock products.

Jeju was recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health in May as a region free of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) that affects cloven-hoofed animals, including cows and pigs.
