According to Yonhap News,

The meeting of the 2012 Congress Preparatory Committee (CPC) will take place to discuss the agenda of World Conservation Congress (WCC) at International Convention Center (ICC) Jeju on April 11th and 12th.

Jeju Province said on April 8th that the meeting will be attended by President Miguel Pellerano (Argentina) of the 2012 WCC Preparatory Committee; Global Director Enrique Lahmann of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN); Professor Seo Yeong-bae, the Head of Korean Council of IUCN; and General Secretary Hong Jeong-gi of WCC Organizing Committee.

They will discuss agenda of 2012 WCC, have briefing sessions on the design and preparation status of WCC Forum, hold penal discussions among Jeju students and IUCN officials on April 11th.

On the second day of the meeting, participants will discuss the theme of the Congress and how to promote its slogan and have an eco-tour to Geomunoreum Lava Tubes, Korea’s first UNESCO Natural World Heritage.

The Congress Preparatory Committee makes decisions regarding the preparation of WCC and consists of seven IUCN directors and three representatives of the host country. IUCN held the first meeting of the 2013 CPC at its headquarters in Switzerland.

WCC will take place in Jeju from September 6th to 15th in 2012, gathering about 10,000 people from 1,100 organizations of 160 member countries including governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations.

WCC is organized by IUCN, the largest organization in the nature preservation sector, every four years to provide an opportunity to discuss natural conservation, bio-diversity, and climate change. It is also called ‘environmental Olympics’ thanks to its focus on the environment.
