A promotional hall will be established to commemorate the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan at Jeju World Cup Stadium.

Seogwipo City, Jeju Province said on April 18th that the reception hall (864m2) on the first floor of Jeju World Cup Stadium will be renovated into a promotional hall for the 2002 FIFA World Cup to display a total of 82 kinds of souvenirs (346 pieces) by the upcoming June.

The hall will consist of an information zone for the World Cup Stadium, a history zone for the World Cup, a 2002 FIFA World Cup zone, an exhibit zone for donated items, a Jeju soccer zone, a Jeju FC zone, and a photo zone.

It is expected that the promotional hall will attract Chinese tourists thanks to its features such as a video of the first soccer match by the Chinese national team at the FIFA World Cup in Jeju in 2002 and mock-ups of Chinese players with which visitors can take pictures.

The exhibit zone for donations will display 32 kinds of materials (63 items) donated by six people including Kim Byeong-so of Sinhyo-dong, Seogwipo City, and donators’ names will be engraved at the zone.

Seogwipo City will continuously receive materials related to the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan at Sports Support Division (82-064-760-3603) even after the promotional hall is opened.

Mr. Oh Seong-hyeop of Sports Support Division said “the promotional hall will stoke the memory and excitement of the 2002 World Cup for citizens who experienced the event first hand, and preserve the historic value of the World Cup for the next generation,” and added “we believe that the hall will be a must-visit place among Chinese visitors.”
