According to Yonhap News,

The 9th symposium of Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies(EASTS) opened at International Convention Center in Jeju with the theme of green growth and transportation.

In the symposium hosted by Korean Society of Transportation and Korea Transport Institute, Kwon Do-youp, minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, said "while there have been a lot of discussion on greenhouse gas issues in aviation and maritime transport, led by International Civil Aviation Organization and International Maritime Organization, land traffic has not drawn enough attention. I sincerely hope that EASTS serves as a venue for tackling climate change in land transport sector."

Jeon Kyung-su, chairman of EASTS, said "With surging population and economic growth, East Asia needs a drastic cut in greenhouse gas emissions. I hope that the symposium can be an opportunity to find a solution of green growth."

The symposium is joined by about 500 experts and researchers on transportation sector. Discussion will take place in 90 sections including sustainable transportation system.

EASTS was founded in 1994 by experts in 16 East Asian countries with the aim of contributing to transportation sector in East Asia by sharing information.
