According to Yonhap News,

Jeju has achieved its goal to surpass one million in the number of foreign visitors, four months earlier than last year, encouraged by the increasing number of Chinese tourists.

As of August 15, 1.00539 million foreign tourists visited Jeju, a whopping 91.8 percent on-year gain from 523,966 a year earlier. Last year, Jeju exceeded the one million mark on December 16.

Chinese people came first in the number of tourists with 654,844, followed by Japan's 123,280, Malaysia's 36,256, Singapore's 30,776, Taiwan's 26,408, Hong Kong's 23,699 and America's 14,676.

The number of Chinese tourists, in particular, has surged 137.4 percent from the previous year's 275,820.

The dramatic increase in the number of foreign visitors seems to be attributable to Jeju's designation as a World Natural Heritage and Seven Wonders of the World, leading to people's growing awareness of Jeju.

Jeju forecasts that it can reach the goal to attract 1.5 million foreign tourists within this year.
