According to Yonhap News,

Travelers will be able to walk around the entire southern resort island of Jeju next month when the island's "Olle" walking routes are fully connected for the first time.

A new 10-kilometer route will open on Nov. 24 to link Haenyeo Museum to the starting point of course No. 1, both along the island's east coast, according to the Jeju Olle Foundation that maintains the Olle Trail.

It will be the 21st and the last "Olle" course to open since construction of the Olle Trail began in 2006, they added.

  


Currently, 20 "Olle" hiking routes with a total length of about 410 km follow the island's stunning coastline from its eastern tip, across the south and back to the northwestern area.

Inspired by her own journey to the Camino de Santiago, Suh Myung-sook, a former journalist who is now chief of the foundation, began paving Jeju trails back in her native Jeju in 2006. "Olle" comes from the old Jeju dialect meaning a very narrow alley or path from a street to a gate of a house.

The popularity of the Jeju trails prompted a boom of opening similar walking routes by municipal authorities in other parts of the country.

In 2011, slightly more than 1 million people used the "Olle" courses, up from 3,000 in 2007.
