According to Yonhap News,

Jeju has seen the dramatic increase in the number of foreign tourists.

As of November 8, the number of foreign visitors to Jeju this year recorded 1.5 million, up a whopping 69.3 percent from 881,738 a year earlier.

The Chinese made up the biggest share with 67 percent (987,991), followed by Japan's 11 percent (163,942).

Currently, the average number of foreign tourists to Jeju a day amounted to 3,500.

The figure posted the record high of 10,878 on June 23 and broke the record again in June with 220,094.

Jeju garnered about 2.2 trillion won from its tourism industry, accounting for 21 percent of its total GRDP.

The dramatic increase in the number of foreign tourists to Jeju seems attributable to Jeju's growing recognition in the world with being designated the UNESCO World Heritage Site, UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and Global Geopark and increasing transportation routes including direct flights and international cruise ships.
